On March 19, the inaugural session of the AWE Intensive Learning Programme — titled “Breakthrough Thinking: Trends and Strategic Cognition for the Virtue-Economy Transformation of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises” — was successfully concluded. We extend our sincere gratitude to Mr. Jacob, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of MSC Consulting, for his insightful presentation, which delivered a practical and in-depth course on strategy, market dynamics, and organisational transformation.

During the session, participants explored the fundamental question: “What is strategy?”
Discussions evolved from the proposition that “strategy is the optimal solution that enhances the probability of success across multiple equilibria” to the understanding that “strategy represents the optimal solution that renders the path to success difficult to reverse.”

The course centred on strategic transformation and the virtue economy for SMEs, with key content encompassing the following:

  1. Definition of Strategic Intent: Strategic intent is not merely a numerical target but a comprehensive articulation of an enterprise’s “current state, challenges, and desired future state”, serving as the foundational prerequisite for strategy formulation.

  2. Insights from Real-World Cases: From original equipment manufacturing (OEM) to proprietary branding, and from factory operations to market presence — the key to achieving a breakthrough lies in identifying pain points and having the courage to make decisive commitments.

  3. Critical Success Factors for Strategy: These include an assessment of competitors, selection of appropriate market segments, close attention to evolving variables in the enterprise’s core competitive advantages, and the execution of transformation with resolute determination.

  4. Value of the Virtue Economy: Integrating sustainability into corporate strategy can significantly enhance competitiveness and help enterprises secure long-term growth advantages amidst a changing landscape.

Furthermore, we extend our appreciation to the entrepreneurs and managers from various industries for their active participation and earnest exchanges. Their engagement transformed the session from a mere transfer of knowledge into a forum for intellectual interaction and inspiration.
